Erik Lundkvist (organ of St Mary’s Church, Sigtuna)

Proprius presents a beautiful disc of familiar and lesser-known organ works from different periods, performed by highly-regarded organist and champion of Swedish music Erik Lundkvist.

Erik Lundkvist has served as organist of the Stockholm Concert Hall and of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, and is currently artistic director of the Stockholm Organ Festival. He here plays the organ of St Mary’s Church in Sigtuna, the oldest town in Sweden and founded as a centre for the Christian religion. The church itself dates from the mid-13th century; however the organ we hear here was installed in 2000 and this is the first recording featuring the instrument.
